Have you ever heard of a shepherd whose sole motivation for being a shepherd was his love of sheep and his desire to develop a warm, loving, intimate relationship with them?
Wait a minute, you better not answer that. I withdraw the question.

can a sheep decide it is ready to put on a suit and tie...and step up authorized to lead the other sheep in the flock?
how is that going to turn out in the long term?.
when the shepherd returns...will he then follow the opinions and rules of the sheep in the suit and tie?.

Well, I have been thinking about Jesus' analogy, comparing his followers to sheep and I have another take on it.
There is always so much emphasis about protecting the sheep from the Satan and other treacherous wolves that would devour them. The shepherd's job is to protect the sheep from these dangers. Yet, what is the shepherds motives in protecting the sheep? Is it really for the sheeps long-term benefit? Or is for the shepherds? Isn't the shepherd protecting the sheep from the wolves so that he can later skin and eat the sheep or sell them for his own profit. Is the sheep any better off being eaten by the shepherd's family than he is eaten by wolves? He is still dead and eaten just the same.
Kind of makes you look at shepherds in a new light doesn't it?

once upon a time there was a daddy who really, really liked alcohol.
he drank too much all the time and smelled like wine, cheap wine from a box.
) the daddy's boys also grew up.

Don't beat yourself up because you are glad your grandfather suffered. It seems like some sort of cosmic justice that one who caused so much suffering to others should in turn suffer himself. Of course, so often we see the opposite happens, so I don't put too much faith in karmic justice. Sometimes suffering is caused by others, sometimes it just happens. One we can't do anything about, the other we can. Perhaps one day you will be able to let the suffering go and the wish for justice. If not, then that's OK too. We feel what we feel. It's how we act that makes a difference.

It is a hard story to tell and a hard one to hear. It takes brave hearts to speak out and strong hearts to hear what is said. It gets a little easier to tell and a little easier to bear with time. (Not much but a little). What makes it worth it is seeing things can be different for the next generation. Telling the story is the first step to changing the future for your family and your children.

while waiting for a streetcar today, i noticed an unusal flier stuck to the side of a newspaper box.
why has love of neighbour grown cold?many people feel miserable with no solution.
in israel, jews and arabs live together, but often hate one another.
Does anybody remember when we went door to door telling people the Watch Tower printing corporation produced literature was NON-DENOMINATIONAL?
Yes, Gary, I remember that too. We used to try and present ourselves as non-demonational Bible students just interested in finding other people who were interested in studying the bible with us. This was in the early 80's too. Not in the actual time when we were called International Bible Students. We used to say this as it usually caused less people to slam the doors in our faces when we were pioneering. There seemed to be a real resistance to immediately introducing ourselves as Jehovah's Witnesses. I always thought this was silly. Like they didn't already know. Or wouldn't figure it out in about two minutes. I always said I was a JW right away. I figured I'd rather get the door slammed right away than waste my time playing cat and mouse games.
Householder: "What organization are you with?"
JW: "Well, we're just a couple of your neighbours concerned with the worsening conditions in our neighbourhood".
Pleeease! Yeah, we sure fooled a lot of them with that one. I think it just made them more annoyed.

You all have become just as our original parent's (adam and eve) mind thinkers.
Oh, no! Please Jehovah, protect us from those horrible, evil, sons and daughters of adam and eve. You know the one's I mean. Those ones who have the audacity to think with their minds!
What shall we call this new insidious breed? I know! I know! "Mind Thinkers". Oh the sheer horror of it!

hi lenny!.
response to bill (26 august 2006).
thanks lenny.
By the way, when you say file it in your favorites, is there a place on this site to "store" favorite threads, or did you mean just storing it in the favorites in your ISP list? Anyway, thanks for the kind words.
Hi Lenny
No, there's no way I know of to store favorites on this site. I just made a special folder in my internet favorites for letters and articles on JWD. It is so much easier when you want to find something that was meaningful to you than trying to wade back through 5000+ threads to remember where you read it. I'm no longer worried that someone will see it on my computer. I'm pretty sure my husband is not going to rat me out to the elders and if he does he has enough ammo with what I have told him verbally. An internet folder wouldn't make a difference.

i picked one up today i'm really enjoying.
"screwed, the undeclared war against the middle class" by thom hartmann.
i am finding it to be very insightful into why jobs are being sent overseas.
I just bought the complete works of George Orwell. "Animal Farm" was hilarious. So clever. It was written as a political satire of course but I could pretty much substitue different ranks of the WTBTS for all the animals. I guess mind control is mind control whether it's governments, religions or "pigs" doing the controlling. I'm on "Burmese Days" right now and am saving "1984" for last.
